Professor Kapil Kapoor to deliver special lecture on “Bharat-Bodh: Bharat Ka Arth, Bharat Ki Soch”
Chandigarh, October 24, 2019: Professor Kapil Kapoor, eminent thinker and Chairman, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla will deliver a Special Lecture on “Bharat-Bodh: Bharat Ka Arth, Bharat Ki Soch”, (in the PU Bharat - Bodh Vyakhyan Shrinkhala) on 30 October 2019 at 3 pm in the Evening Studies Auditorium, Arts Block I ,PU Chandigarh. The Special Lecture will be presided over by Vice Chancellor, Panjab University Chandigarh, Professor Raj Kumar. In his proposed lecture Professor Kapil Kapoor will critically examine the need to promote the attainment of "Bharat-Bodh" ( the understanding of Bharat/India) agianst the backdrop of relentless march of Euro-Americo-centric discourses at all levels of learning and research in India. He intends to discuss the coordinates of the meaning(s) of Bharat that inform all the Indic knowledge -traditions. How different paths and methodologies in Indic traditions are integrated into an integral understanding of word and the world, self and all (sva and sarva). Professor Kapil Kapoor has teaching and research experience of more than 50 years and has been the Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean of the School of Language, Literature and Cultural Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He contributed immensely to the launching of the School of Sanskrit Studies at JNU, New Delhi also. He was nominated as Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha and was also invited by the M P Government to establish the Sanchi University, a prestigious Centre of Indic Studies and Research. Presently, he has been working as the Chairman, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, a premiere institute for Indic Studies and Research. As an eminent writer, his books include Encyclopaedia of Hinduism ( 11 Vols; Editor-in-Chief, Rupa, New Delhi,2012), Encyclopaedia of Indian Poetics (Editor-in-Chief, 5 Vols, forthcoming, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi),Literary Theory: Indian Conceptual Framework, (1998), Text and Interpretation: The Indian Tradition (2005), Dimensions of Panini Grammar (2005), Rati Bhakti: Bharat Ki Katha Parampara Mein (2014) , Comparative Literary Theory: An Overview among others.
