National and International cultural dance performed by the students during World Tourism Day at LPU campus.

Jalandhar, September 27, 2019: The School of Hotel Management & Tourism at Lovely Professional University (LPU) celebrated World Tourism Day (WTD)-2019 at Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium of the university.
Upholding the celebrative theme this year- ‘Tourism and Jobs: a Better Future for All’, LPU supported first-time chosen host India, by United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), through day-long commemorative celebrations including international and national cultural performances. In fact, every year, UNWTO invites people of all ages and backgrounds world across to hold and take part in WTD celebrations in respective countries. Keeping the celebrative spirit alive, thousands of LPU students from 50+ countries and 29 Indian states participated in scores of tourism oriented cultural activities and performances.
Opening the celebrations, inspiring message of the Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili of United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) was conveyed live to all the students of LPU School of Hotel Management & Tourism that “Tourism can help build a better future for everyone”. Inaugurating the ‘Tourism Job Watch’, Head of the School Dr Sanjay Modi congratulated all the students and staff members and wished them brilliant success in their related fields. Students from Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Venezuela, Odisha, Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan and more participated in and performed on international and national dances/songs; Fashion show; Cultural skits; Tourism Quiz and more.
One of the participating students from Sri Lanka at LPU Tharooshika Keshani Bandula of B Sc (Air-Lines, Tourism & Hospitality) holds: “Tourism extends to various sectors and is responsible for creating various direct and indirect employment. I am happy to choose the best tourism studies at LPU in India as I know well that the development of tourism is directly linked with community development….., and ..I am also going to be a great part of this process in the near future.”
Illustrative, celebrated every September 27 around the world, the purpose of World Tourism Day is to foster awareness among the international community on the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.
