Zero technique ‘revolutionises’ knee replacement
Mohali, October 15, 2019: “Total knee replacement with the minimum of every invasive step is called zero technique. The technique has many advantages including requirement of minimum surgical time. The surgery time required by zero technique is a just 8-10 minutes thus it’s a truly revolution in the history of surgery.” Dr Naveen Mittal, an ortho surgeon stated this while speaking during a ‘meet your doctors’ program at Shalby multi-speciality Hospital, Mohali on Tuesday where around 50 members of Mohali Senior Citizens Association participated. During occasion, Dr. Mohit Gupta ortho surgeon , Amar Bhadari physiatrist, Dr Harpreet Kaur, Dr.Vandana & Dr Shreyaans the gynecologists , Dr Namrata head of intensive care unit, Dr Sachin Bindal neuro surgeon, Dr Meetu Mehra deputy medical superintendent , Dr. Gurvinder Dheeraj from ENT , Dr Akash Garg from internal medicine also spoke about their respective medical speciality. Among others, Dr SS Gill, former professor and head at PGI and presently clinical head at Shalby multi-speciality Hospital, Mohali, Satpal Singh Gambhir and Vishal Mishra, CAO and Head Corporate Development respectively were also presented during occasion. Dr Mittal said further that this is a minimally invasive procedure and there is minimal incision leading to less exposure of body tissues. It has been proven that the combination of minimum surgical time and minimum exposure helps patient spend lesser time in OT and healing becomes faster . In fact in few hours , patients can walk to ensure maximum flexion of muscles. With good flexion of the knee and with quick post-surgical mobilization the quick healing is assured, he asserted. Talking about other benefits of technique , Dr Mittal said that it require minimum intake of drugs thus less consumption of painkiller and antibiotics leading to minimum drug-related side effects. There is not only less infection and side effects but also less blood loss. Being a painless procedure with minimum hospital stay, minimum exposure and quick healing, this procedure leads to less emotional and mental stress on both the patient and the family, he informed.
