Ludhiana, April 25, 2024: Intensifying awareness drive in low voter turnout falling under Ludhiana South constituency, District Election Officer Sakshi Sawhney on Thursday exhorted the citizens to buck the past voting trend and make new records by voting in maximum number. 


Addressing the people in an event organized under Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) in Sherpur Kalan, Sakshi Sawhney called upon all those who were eligible to vote on June 1 in record numbers. She said that the people must not miss the opportunity to vote responsibly as citizens of our great motherland. She told them about the importance of casting votes and their voting rights. She said that each vote had its own importance and it was the duty of each resident to not only to cast their own vote only but also convince the others to exercise their franchise so that democratic process in the country gets strengthened.

The District Election Officer also said that Right to vote was the most important asset in the life of every individual as through this they could elect their representatives in a free and fair manner. She also assured the people that the arrangements of lemon water, sweetened water, fans, sheds, seating facilities would be ensured at polling booths besides those required, the administration would also arrange pick and drop facility on June 1.

Assistant Commissioner Krishna Pal Rajpoot said that the Voter turnout ratio in this area was low during previous elections. He said that the aim of district administration was to achieve the target of more than 70 per cent voter turnout during the Lok Sabha elections (Iss Baar, 70 Paar).

Later, school students also performed a Nukkad Natak conveying the message of the need to participate in voting. Through their performance they also highlighted the various steps being planned to make the voting process smooth and hassle free for all citizens.
