Training course on seed production concludes at PAU

Ludhiana, January 16, 2015: A two-day training programme on “Seed Production and Quality Assurance” concluded at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The programme was organised by Director (Seeds), PAU wherein 36 officers from the University, Punjab State Seed Certification Authority, Punjab Agro Industries Corporation Limited and Department of Agriculture participated. Eminent scientists, working on various crops like wheat, rice, oilseeds, pulses, forages and vegetables shared their experiences on seed production aspects of their respective crops.

 

The Chief Guest, Dr. J.S. Dhiman, Additional Director of Research (Natural Resource and Plant Health Management) highlighted the importance of seed production programme of PAU, and its contribution in building a stronger relationship between the institution and the farming community. He impressed upon the young officers engaged in seed production, seed certification and storage to learn from the experiences of the experts.

 

Dr. J.S. Brar, Director (Seeds), PAU, dwelt on the progress of seed production industry and constraints in seed production. A visit to University Seed Farm, Ladhowal was organised for the trainees, where they were shown the working and efficient management of processing plant, gravity separator and storage facilities. They also visited breeder seed plots of various crops at the farm where they were made aware of the off-types in various crops based on certain distinguishing characters. The training successfully concluded with the distribution of certificates to the trainees.
