Sahit Academy, Ludhiana has started a series of Rubru. Under this series, Rubru with renowned story-writer and fictionist Dr.Waryam Singh Sandhu was organized in the Department, here today. He started his career in the fourth decade of the 20th century and still continues. Talking with the students about his life, family, literary career and contemporary literature, Dr.Waryam Sandhu spoke for two hours. In his lecture, he defined the writer as a lighthouse, who with his writings gives the message of removal of darkness from the society. Waryam Sandhu said that terrorism, racism and religious narrowness has been opposed in my writings. My writings are affected by the teaching of Sikhism and social welfare thoughts of Marx. My writings have also been affected by my parents. Though, they were illiterates but the stories of human welfare told by
them became the part of my literary journey.
Dr.Yog Raj, Chairman, School of Punjabi Studies, PU and Prof. Sukhdev Singh, President, Punjabi Sahit Academy, Ludhiana gave a detailed account of his literary achievements and contribution to Punjabi Literature. On this occasion, ghazalgo Siri
Ram Arsh, Prof. Uma Sethi, Dr. Sarabjit Singh, Dr. Pawan Kumar, Dr. Ashwani Kumar, research scholar and students were present. Students asked many questions to him about literary theory and thought. When he was asked that all the writer returned their awards on the murder of a writer whereas you returned your award late. In response to this, he said he was awarded by a committee of writers of Bharti Sahit Academy, not by the government. Also, it was not his intention to return the award. When readers asked him to do so by saying that our sentiments are associated with it, he did. At the end of the programme, Dr.Sarabjit Singh thanked the guests. The Chairman of Department Dr. Yog Raj said that the next Rubru will be with Jaswant Deed on 14 February and on 19 February with young poet Gurpreet.
