PAU Holds Kisan Club Meet

Ludhiana, December 3, 2015: Crop diversification through new techniques, weed control in rabi crops, micro nutrients in wheat and care of dairy animals during winters were the major focus areas of the monthly training camp of PAU Kisan Club, held today at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). As many as 410 farmers from various parts of Punjab participated in the camp. During the training camp of women’s wing of the club, experts highlighted the importance of women in agriculture, and their role in agriculture through value addition to farm produce. A total of 40 farm women attended the camp. Meanwhile, the state level training-cum-workshop for the members of Progressive Beekeepers Association (PBKA) was also organized at PAU in which a total of 72 beekeepers participated.
The President of the Club, Mr Manpreet Singh informed the farmers about the crop insurance scheme.
The Programme Coordinator of the club, Dr T.S. Riar stressed on the farmers to adopt cooperative farming. He told that the entomology experts gave useful tips to increase production of honey during winters and also imparted knowledge on mass queen bee rearing techniques.
Dr Rupinder Kaur, Programme Coordinator of women’s wing of the club, said the experts gave demonstrations on value addition to agricultural bi-products through utility and decorative articles. Besides, farm women were also educated about the use of annuals in landscaping and making of bonsai, she added.
