Ferozepur, April 3, 2015: Fifth Annual cultural festival, namely VIRSA-2015 was celebrated under the guidance of Prof Rahul Chopra (Chairman-AREB) with great pump and show in the Polytechnic Wing of SBS State Technical Campus, Ferozepur. Dr T.S.Sidhu, Campus Director was the Chief Guest during this cultural festival. The main theme of this cultural festival was to aware people to curb the practice of women foeticide, which is an alarming and frightening reality in today’s society.

The function began with GaneshVandana presented by students of Shining Stars Group. Dr. T. S. Sidhu (Campus Director) in his welcome speech thanked all distinguished guests. He praised the efforts of students, faculty and staff of Polytechnic Wing for all arrangements. Prof Gazal Preet Singh, Principal Poly Wing, in his speech advised youth to follow the footsteps of our great martyrs and to imbibe their great love and affection towards our country. He also emphasized the need to motivate people for not killing or abandoning a baby girl child.

In this cultural extravaganza various events stated to Choreography on Women Empowerment, Punjab’s rich and deep rooted culture and heritage were presented. Khushdeep Singh of Nikki Awaz Punjab Di fame (MH-1) sung various melodious traditional Punjabi songs and enthralled the audience. Choreography on Women Empowerment was appreciated by all present. All students enjoyed and danced during performances of Malvai Gidda, Solo dance, Group Dance, Jodi Dance and Solo Singing competitions.

Khushdeep Singh of MH-1 “Nikki Awaz Punjab Di” fame enthralled the audience with his melodious voice. Students of various branches presented their flair and caliber with great enthusiasm. All the faculty members and students made this night a glamorous and memorable night. The Award of VIRSA was won by. Deepak of first year Computer Engg and Miss Virsa was won by Ms Priyanka from first year Computer Engineering. In Solo Song competition Arpith of MCA came first; in Solo Dance competition Anshu of 1st year Electrical Engineering came first; in Jori Dance Tiger and Sanjay came first; in Comedy competition Sunny and Rubal came first; in Petry competition Sandeep Bhullar and Gurmeet Kaur were winners. Gidda was performed by Mandeep Kaur, Shivangi, Gurpreet Kaur, Divyanshi, Navdeep Kaur, Seema, Jyoti and Ravinder came first.

In Choreography first prize was won by Jyoti, Gurmeet Kaur, Mandeep Kaur, Simranjeet Kaur, Vinay Monga, Sukhbir Singh, Jashandeep Kaur, Deepak Kumar, Manish and Ruba. The Bhangra and Malwai Gidda team was trained by Jella Sandhu (National Awardee). The Malwai Gidha team members were Harpreet Singh, Manpreet Singh, Dharminder Singh, Taranjeet Singh, Shihsu Goel, Kharat Kumar, Manpreet Singh, Kanwal Singh, Sarabjeet Singh and Shubham Chauchan. Bhangra Team members were Sarabjeet Singh, Kanwal Singh, Manpreet Singh, Shishu Goel, Taranjeet Singh, Dharminder Singh and Bharat Kumar.

At the end of the Principal Polytechnic Wing Gazal Preet Singh and Rahul Chopra (Chairman-AREB) paid their heartful thanks to all the audience and distinguished guests. He specially congratulated the AREB team, namely Tania, Aanchal, Gurpreet, Sukhwinder, Simranjeet Kaur, Navjot Singh, Piyush Soni, Pargat Singh, Jaspreet Singh, Gurmeet Kaur, Yashmeen Kaur, Karan and Amar. He also congratulated the decoration Committee members, namely Suraj Parsad, Parveen Kumar, Pankaj Kumar, Om Parkash, Neeraj Kumar, Amar and Ravi Raj.

The stage was very well managed by Comperers, Shivangi, MAndeep Kaur, Gagan, Harpanthparteek Kaur, Harmeet Singh, Ankit Dhawan, Boota Singh and Maninder.
