Ludhiana, April 5, 2019: A lecture on ZED initiative was organized by the Students Chapter and Local Chapter of Institution of Engineers(India), Ludhiana at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, today. Welcoming the guests, Dr.Arvind Dhingra, Faculty Advisor, SCIE said that in a fiercely competitive World ZED technology holds key to beat the competition and remain profitable.
The expert speaker on this occasion was Er.Surinderbir Singh, CEO, Taraan Industries and Secretary, CICU, Ludhiana unit. Introducing the concept to an audience of around 50 participants, he said Zero Defect Zero Emission (ZED) was a technology that industry was looking forward to adopting for sustainability. He elaborated the process of getting ZED certification through Quality Council of India. He told that there were various types of certificates like platinum (>90% marks), gold, silver, bronze and no certification(40%). These marks are awarded on basis of evaluation done based on thirty point check. Out of the thirty points, twenty are mandatory for compliance and balance ten can be chosen by industry on its own. He also informed that Ludhiana has over 45000 MSME units and only two units are ZED certified. He also clarified that the process of ZED certification was different from ISO certification and process was much more rigorous. He told the audience about the statistical calculations to be done for various parameters to get this certification. Elaborating on advantages of achieving this certification he said that besides making industry profitable it would help in getting much wider acceptance of products and services of a particular industry.
