Ludhiana, March 23, 2019: Dr.F C Eggleston was an American Surgeon who established the Surgery department at CMC in Oct 1955. He had established a modified American Residency Program in Surgery and had trained more than 100 surgeons in 3 decades. He was the major drive behind the development of Surgery in North India. Dr.Eggleston was the person who brought the concept of critical care in surgical patients.

Dr.Eggleston passed away in Nov 2016 in the United States. To perpetuate his memory, Dr.Sarjit Singh Gill, a renowned thoracic surgeon in US, along with other students of Dr.Eggleston, established a Trust – DR. F C Eggleston CMC Ludhiana Trust. Trust will organize annual academic program at CMC Ludhiana.

Dr William Bhatti, Director CMC & Hospital, congratulated the department of surgery for organizing the first Dr F.C. Eggleston oration and speaking on the occasion he appreciated the outstanding commitment and service to the mankind by Dr Eggleston.

The inaugural Dr. F. C. Eggleston Memorial Oration was delivered to the jam-packed auditorium, by Professor Palanivelu and he highlighted the progress of laparoscopic surgery in last 25 years. He emphasized the great benefits of this technique of surgery as well as the upcoming new technique of surgery – Robotic Surgery. Dr. Palanivelu is well known all over the world for his tremendous contribution in this field. He highlighted the increasing role of the minimal access surgery in patients with cancer.

This year CMC is celebrating 125 glorious years of history making us one of the oldest healthcare Institution not only in Punjab, but in India as well and as a part of125 years celebration year of CMC Ludhiana, a Live Surgery and Gynae Workshop was held at CMC Ludhiana on 22nd March, which was attended by more than 250 surgeonsfrom the region. Leading faculty from the Association of Minimal Access Surgeon of India (AMASI) took part in the workshop. CMC Ludhiana is one of the first medical college in North India to start Laparoscopic Surgery in 1993.

Dr Anil Luther, Medical Superintendent, Christian Medical College & Hospital during his address mentioned that it was God’s calling which brought Dr F.C. Eggleston to CMC Hospital, Who was a highly respected and much loved teacher and served with tremendous skill, gentleness and compassion keeping in mind the vision and mission of our Institution.
