CICU Requests for Reducing Hike in Road Tax Carrying Factory Workers and Employees Especially Ladies

Ludhiana, October 28, 2016: Sh.Avtar Singh President CICU in a press release issued today said that Department of Transport Punjab had abruptly hiked Vehicle Tax from Rs.50000 to Rs.300000 per annum on Vehicles Carrying Factory Workers and Employees; with retrospective effect from 1st October’ 2014 without any information to the stake holders. It is pertinent to mention that factory owners are providing free transport facility to their workers and employees especially ladies residing in rural areas where bus service is not timely and regularly available. Besides this, they have to invest significant amount for purchase of bus and bear operating expenses such as fuel, repair, maintenance, wages of the driver & conductor and other usual charges i.e. renewal of permit, road tax & insurance etc.

Sh. Upkar Singh Ahuja General Secretary CICU said that this road tax hike was brought to the kind notice of S. Sukhkbir Singh Badal, Hon’ble Dy. Chief Minister Punjab during the interactive meeting held with leading and key industrialists under the banner of CICU on 26.08.2016 at Radisson Blu Hotel Ludhiana. While addressing and interacting with key industrialists, Hon’ble Dy. Chief Minister Punjab announced that road tax hike on vehicles carrying factory workers and employees will be reduced w.e.f. 1st October 2016.

They have requested and urged S. Sukhkbir Singh Badal, Hon’ble Dy. Chief Minister Punjab to advise Hon’ble Transport Minister and Principal Secretary Department of Transport, Government of Punjab for issuing requisite notification immediately. This financial support will provide requisite relief to the industry facing financial constraints.
