Appeal to Punjab Government for full pay grade for assistant professors on contractual basis in government aided college
Jalandhar, January 28, 2019: Dr.Gurpinder Singh Samra, Principal Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar and President of the College Principals Association has appealed to the Punjab Government for a full pay grade for assistant professors on contractual basis in government aided colleges of Punjab. Principal Dr.Samra recalled the notification released by the government of Punjab in the year 2015 wherein a total of 1925 assistant professors were appointed in 136 colleges of the region on the basic pay scale of 21,600 on a 3-year contract as per the probation rules. The same process was carried out in a three stage process and after a thorough evaluation of their work, the same posts were scheduled to be put into further progression. However, despite the initial 3 year contract running out in July 2018 the government has not yet released the notification for aforementioned progression. Dr. Samra has appealed to the government to do the needful in this regard and also called for the 6th pay commission report to be applied on the same case of college assistant professors as the union government of India has already regulated the 7th pay commission for its employees. Dr. GS Samra also look up the impending issue of post Matric scholarship where in the dues from previous 4 years are still to be released by the government while the nominal amount that has been released has been described as 'significantly short' of the actual amount whilst also mentioning the fact that the dearness allowance of all the staff members of government aided colleges is also pending with the government of Punjab compared to the union government which has already released the same for its employees. As per the words of Dr. Samra, such impending cases have affected the levels of higher education and subsequently demoralizing the employees along with creating a financial crisis for the colleges of the region. Dr.Samra reiterated his commitment to make Punjab as the leading state in terms of higher Education and for that he called on for the government to take care of the regular and permanent staff in the colleges so that they can duly contribute to the creation of a progressive State of Punjab.
