Students educated about the Detection and Prevention of Cancer
Jalandhar, February 4, 2019: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar organizes seminar and interactive session on cancer awareness in order to educate the students about the disease of cancer. The lecture was organized by the Student Wellness Club & Red Ribbon Club working flawlessly under the aegis of the Department of Student Welfare of the college. The resource person for the seminar was Dr.Anchal Aggarwal. The entire goal of the lecture was the early detection and prevention of the disease. During the lecture, Dr.Anchal discussed about the different types of cancer in detail and also shared her knowledge about symptoms, causes, diagnosis, prevention, screening, management, prognosis and epidemiology of cancer. She also stated that the most common types of cancer affecting Indian population are cervical, breast, oral, lung and colorectal cancers and also the majority of cancers in 90-95% cases are caused due to genetic mutations from environmental factors which include tobacco, diet obesity, stress and pollution. She also explained in detail many treatment options which include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormonal therapy. She also highlighted the importance of screening tests for early diagnosis and treatment for better prognosis. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated and appreciated Dean Student Welfare, Dr Madhumeet, Mrs Sadhna Tandon and Dr Manju Sahni for organizing such awareness programmes as information and education are key to cancer prevention.
