Mohali, January 22, 2016: Today All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE),
Delhi has announced approval process for colleges for 2016-17 giving more relaxation to the Technical Institutions.

The new Chairman, Prof. Anil D.Sahasrabudhe has made lot many welcoming changes in the approval process handbook of 2016-17which would have many positive impacts on the Technical Education of the Country.

The major relaxation has been given to the colleges in the form of land. On the one hand new colleges would have to invest less on the land while existing colleges would be able to expand more on the land already available with them which would be now surplus.

The land required for engineering college has been reduced from 10 acres to 7.5 acres. The land requirement for Polytechnic colleges has been reduced from 5 acres to 4 acres and similarly for Pharmacy, Architecture, Management College etc have also been reduced in almost same proportion.

Commenting on the new norms of AICTE renowned education expert Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges, Chandigarh said that AICTE has discontinued the eveningshift in the colleges. He said, “We will meet andrequest AICTE again onthis issue to restart evening shift to make optimum utilization of resources asinfrastructure of the colleges are used for 7-8 hours and for rest of the time it is left unused

Considering the shortage of faculty in the country,20% visiting faculty has been allowed and student- computer ratio has been reduced from 1:6 to 1:8. Giving more relaxation to the colleges instead of compulsory list of journals, suggested list of journals can also be taken.

Another bigger relief has come to the applicant who wants to start new college in urban area. Instead of 2.5 acre contiguous land now land could be in 2 parts i.e 1.5 acre and 1 acre within the radius of 2 km.

“Such welcoming steps in the new approval process of 2016-17 would give new life to the ailing unaided colleges” Kataria added.
