PAU ORGANISES FIELD DAY ON MICRO IRRIGATION

Ludhiana, October 14, 2016: The Department of Soil and Water Engineering, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organised a one-day awareness camp/field day on “Micro Irrigation” at Jodhpur Farm, Regional Research Station, Bathinda. More than 200 farmers from Bathinda district and scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Regional Research Station and Farm Advisory Service Centre, Bathinda participated in the programme. In his remarks, the Chief Guest, Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director Extension Education, PAU, advised the farmers to save water and use micro Irrigation systems. He also urged them to remain in touch with the university scientists for reaping benefits of new technologies including micro-irrigation systems.

Sh. Jaila Ram, Superintending Engineer, Punjab Water Resources Management and Development Corporation (PWRMDC), made the made the farmers aware of the activities of PWRMDC and briefed about the Kotla branch.

Earlier, Dr Rajan Aggarwal, Head, Department of Soil and Water Engineering, PAU, welcomed the guests and the farmers.

During the programme, experts dwelt on different aspects of horticultural crops using micro irrigation system. They apprised the farmers of micro irrigation, use of saline water for cultivation of fruits and vegetables, fertigation, drip irrigation maintenance, cultivation of cotton and how to improve water use efficiency. The PAU experts included Dr O.P. Chaudhary, Dr Rajan Aggarwal, Dr J.S. Brar, Dr Paramjit Singh, Dr Rakesh Sharda, Dr Naveen Garg, Dr Mandeep Singh Gill, Dr Anirudh Thakur and Dr Sudhir Thaman. The programme was coordinated by Dr Karamjit Singh Sekhon.

Farmers took keen interest in exhibition as well as presentations on drip irrigation. They interacted with the experts on use of drip irrigation in different crops.
