Raikot (Ludhiana), October 30, 2015: Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajat Agarwal today stated that the paddy procurement in the district is going on smoothly as elaborate arrangements have been made for a hassle free procurement. He informed that out of 8,38,169 MT of total paddy arrivals in 101 different mandis of the district, 8,05,008 MT has been purchased and 6,17,801 MT has already been lifted, while the remaining is in the process of getting lifted. He also informed that payments of around Rs 759.94 crore already been made to the farmers.
      Accompanied by senior district administration officers, the Deputy Commissioner today visited mandis at villages Bassian, Kalsan and others of the district. While speaking to the media persons on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner assured that there is no shortage of Bardana in the district. He said that some persons had complained that there is shortage of Bardana in some mandis of the district and during the checking today, no such problem has been found as there is ample stock of bardana in all mandis of the district.  
       Out of the total arrivals in the district, PunGrain (Punjab Grains Procurement Corporation Ltd) has purchased 282310 MT, Markfed has purchased 174937 MT, Punsup has purchased 185763 MT, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation has purchased 78131 MT, Punjab Agro has purchased 75422 MT, FCI 7807 MT and privates have purchased 638 MT of paddy till yesterday evening.
      He further informed that out of total stock lifted i.e. PunGrain has lifted 213000 MT, Markfed has lifted 129640 MT, Punsup has lifted 139364 MT, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation 66972 MT, Punjab Agro has lifted 61750 MT, FCI has lifted 6437 MT and Privates has lifted 638 MT.
      Mr Rajat Agarwal said that the Punjab government was determined to purchase and lift every grain of paddy from markets across the state and assured that the state government machinery was fully geared up for the smooth operation and payments would be made to the farmers within the time schedule fixed by the government of India.
     He also directed all officers inspecting the mandis to make proper entries about their visit along with any discrepancies or suggestions in the registers kept in mandis. He also urged the farmers to use their own tractor-trollies in case there is any problem regarding lifting of their crop. He further issued directions to his staff that farmers bringing paddy with high moisture content to the mandis should be asked to take their produce back and bring it when its dry as paddy with high moisture content would not be procured. He also said that the farmers should not harvest their paddy crop at night time.
