Youth and Heritage Festival at PURC Ludhiana - Day 1
Ludhiana, October 18, 2014: Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival (Ludhiana – Zone – A) began today on October 18th 2014 at Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana.  More than 1500 students from 15 colleges of Panjab University Ludhiana Zone – A are participating in this four days festival. The Day 1 of this cultural extravaganza is dedicated to Sahir Ludhianvi.
 
Vice Chancellor Professor Arun Grover inaugurated the event. The Souvenir of the youth festival was released by the VC Professor Arun K. Grover; Registrar Col. G.S Chadha; Dr. Nirmal Jaura, Director, Youth Welfare Department; Dr. HS Gosal, Director, PURC, Ludhiana; Dr. Kuldeep Singh; Dr. Mukesh Arora, Principal Dr. RS Jhangi; Principal Dr. RL Bahl, Principal Dr. Narinder Singh Sidhu; Principal Dr. Neena Seth Pajni; Principal Dr. Shiv Mohan Sharma; Principal Dr. Narinder Sandhu; Principal Dr. Parvin Chawla; Principal Dr. RS Tejpal, Principal Mangat Singh; Principal Dr. Dharam Singh Sandhu; Principal Dr. Jaspal Singh and other dignitaries.
 
Vice Chancellor while addressing the audience highlighted the importance of cultural activities in the overall development of the students and appreciated the initiative of Director Dr. H.S. Gosal, faculty, staff and students of Panjab University Regional Centre for organising this mega event for the very first time. He also stated that PU stresses upon holistic education. Further, he said that youth cultural and sports fests are an integral part of the education and PU is at the forefront in utilising ICT in disseminating information related to the various levels of the youth festivals and integrate them.  
 
Speaking about the central theme of the fest  ”Lets Nurture Drug Free Society”  he said that, skill development of the students along with concurrent forms of education would result in meaningful employment and is the only way to free the drug affected youth of Punjab  from this menace. He emphasized the potential of cultural and extra-curricular activities to divert them from drug abuse and channelize their energies in a positive direction. The auditorium of Panjab University Extension Library was also christened as Annie Besant Hall by Vice Chancellor Dr. Arun Grover on this occasion.
 
Dr GS Chadha, the newly appointed Registrar, Panjab University Chandigarh paid his maiden visit to the regional centre. He emphasised the need of communal harmony and the role of cultural activities & sports in individual’s life to make this global society, a better place to live.   
 
Dr. Nirmal Jaura Director Youth Welfare Panjab University Chandigarh also congratulated the director for hosting this grand event and wished the students to give their best and to perform in a healthy spirit.  Dr. Shiv Kumar Dogra, organizing secretary of Youth Festival welcomed the chief guests, Director Youth Welfare, staff and students from the different participating colleges. Dr. Deepak Manmohan Singh, Director World Punjabi Centre, Patiala was the chief guest for the evening session of this Day 1.
 
Shabad / Bhajans, Group Songs, Classical Music, Vaar, Kali, Kavishri and Creative Writing were the major highlights of the day.
