Workshop on  ‘Numismatics: Study and Research’ concludes
Chandigarh, February 28, 2019: The three day workshop on ‘Numismatics: Study and Research’organized by the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology, Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with the department of Archaeology and Museums, Haryana and ICHR, New Delhi concluded here today. The session was chaired by Professor Laxman S.Thakur and three research papers were presented in this session. Prof. Manmohan Kumar of MDU, Rohtak presented a paper on ‘ Urbanization in Punjab: Archaeological Sigilographic and Numismatic Evidence’ He highlighted the Urban process in Punjab and how material evidence helps in identifying Urban centers. Prof. Danish Moin, Head, Dept. of History Maulana Azad National Urdu University Hyderabad presented an excellent paper on the transition from early medieval to medieval : A study of north Indian Coinage. The paper enlightened on the typology and features of early medieval and medieval coins. Prof. Sita Ram Dubey from Banaras Hindu University enlightened on the importance of ancient Indian coins for reconstructing the history of India. The valedictory session was chaired by Prof. Ronki Ram, Dean Faculty of Arts, PU.he said that currency is immensely useful in reconstructing the history. The report of the three day workshop was presented by the Coordinator, Prof. Renu Thakur. Prof. Danish Moin in his valedictory address discussed the technology of minting coins as discussed in the Ain-i-Akbari. Different officials were given duties to supervise the minting process. Prof. Ronki Ram in his presidential remarks said that currency is immensely useful in reconstructing the history. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr.Banani Bhattacharyya, Deputy Director, Department of Archaeology and Museums, Haryana.
