Workshop on protein purification at BioNEST PU
Chandigarh, November 6, 2019: Cluster Innovation Centre in Biotechnology- BioNEST, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a workshop in collaboration with GE Healthcare Life Sciences, Bangalore covering all critical aspects of protein purification which is one of the most important aspects of product development, in a two day event at PU. The hands-on workshop was an initiative to bridge the gap between industries and academia. The hands-on workshop gave an opportunity to the research scholars, faculty and start-ups all across the tricity to experience industry grade tanning at a comfortable academic platform. The workshop focused on the working and demands of the industry. The workshop was conducted by experienced trainers of the Fast Track team of Global Research Centre that is a unique center established for such trainings in India by GE Healthcare Life Sciences, Bangalore. These trainers carried out a rigorous practical along with theoretical training sessions with the participants to get an in-depth knowledge about the criticalities and dynamics of protein purification. In this two-day workshop, participants were familiarized with the theoretical aspects of different types of chromatographies, where more than 60 participants from different backgrounds attended the sessions. These participants were then trained practically in a wet lab environment hosted at down-stream lab at BioNEST - P.U., Chandigarh. During these sessions, the trainers showed detailed hands-on demonstration of protein purification at the lab scale (using AKTA start) and pilot scale (AKTA pure). According to Dr Rohit Sharma this workshop was in tandem with the focus of BioNEST - CIC-B, P.U. to prepare potential entrepreneurs and industry ready process and manpower. During the course of the workshop participants were made industry ready as per their demands.
