Shillong Sikhs meet Tarun Chugh – BJP leader to take up issue with PM Modi, Amit Shah and Meghalaya CM
Chandigarh, July 24, 2019: A delegation representing more than 350 Shillong Dalit Sikh families under the leadership of Gurjit Singh, visited BJP headquarters in Delhi and handed over memorandums in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to BJP national secretary Tarun Chugh. The delegation spoke in length about the crisis they were facing due to the indifferent attitude of Shillong administration and the government of Meghalaya. Chugh assured the delegation that he would raise the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. “The rights of the Sikhs settled in Shillong for over two centuries and who have contributed their bit in their own humble way to the development of the society, the city and the state must get justice. We will ensure that the community does not get uprooted and victimized under new plan of the district,” he said. Chugh said he would be meeting Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to plead the case of Shillong Sikhs and urge him to ensure that they were neither uprooted nor harassed and threatened. Chugh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government in the centre is committed to its slogan of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikaas’ and would ensure that the rights of each and every community are protected.
