Chandigarh, July 24, 2019: North Zone Cultural Centre and Panjab University Alumni Association organized Saga of Jallianwala Bagh, the play, which was staged at the Panjab University Auditorium on July 23. The Jallianwala massacre is one of the biggest known massacres in human history. It took place on the 13th of April, 1919, on Baisakhi which is a day of festivities and celebration in Punjab. Innocent children, women and men were killed in the ruthless firing.

An eyewitness to this incident, Udham Singh, who was deeply pained by this heinous massacre, pledged to avenge it. During the journey of his avenging the massacre, he wakes up Indians in the Country and abroad to fight for freedom from the British.

After 21 very long years, he manages to find Michael Dwyer, the main culprit of this incident in London and kills him in a crowded meeting. On the 31st of July, 1940 he was hanged to death in London Pentonville Prison.

This play, presented by Samvaad Theatre Group, Chandigarh, is a very humble tribute to the legendary martyr who gave the supreme sacrifice for Bharat Mata.

The play is written by Anoop Sharma, an alumnus of the Department of Indian Theatre, Punjab University and directed by Mukesh Sharma, a noted personality in the field of theatre.

The play was very well received, appreciated and applauded by the audience, many of them saying that they developed goose bumps while watching it.
