Dharamshala, September 26, 2017: BJP MP Anurag Thakur said that he has been working actively to ensure expansion of railway connectivity in his Hamirpur Parliamentary Constituency. “However, my efforts now can be seen on-ground too and the recently published Northern Railway tender notice serves as the proof the same.”

In a press release issued here today Thakur said that the tender notice for and on behalf of the President of India to the Deputy Chief Engineer/Const.II, Northern Railway, Chandigarh is for ‘Development of New alignment, Geological mapping, final location survey and detailed estimate of 50-Km-long Broad Gauge New Rail Link between Una & Hamirpur in the State of Himachal Pradesh.’  The completion period of the work is mentioned as six (6) months and approximate cost of work being Rs.6,27,39,051.89.

Commenting on this Anurag Thakur said, “Railway connectivity is one of the key agenda on my list as it is an important aspect to boost State’s development as well as economy. Therefore, to ensure connectivity and welfare of the public, I have had several meetings with all the key stakeholders in the ministry to seek for their support in expediting the projects. I am extremely humbled by the support offered by the Central Government for undertaking a detailed survey and estimation for Una – Hamirpur rail link within a span of 6 months.”

“In-fact I had recently met Railway Minister Piyush Goyal too and had requested for him to inaugurate or lay foundation stones of railway projects in my constituency in the wider public interest, on immediate basis. The projects proposed are Amb-Andaura to Daulatpur Chowk (16 kms) and Una-Hamirpur Railway Line (50 Kms).”

“In June 2016, the initial survey for Una – Hamirpur railway line was completed in record time and in the budget presented on 1 February 2017, the construction of 50 km railway line to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 2850 crores was approved. In a span of six months, the Central Government has issued a tender for the detailed survey and estimation of the rail link. This only goes to prove that Sh. Narendra Modi led Central Government is committed towards development and welfare of the public. This is a testimony of Government’s growth oriented approach.”

“Rail connectivity will act as a catalyst in improvising trade & business opportunities, fostering tourism, thereby adding to the growth of the State. In addition to this,  once the rail link is operational, it will also ease the means of travel for the locals.”

Thakur has been laying continuous efforts to enhance the connectivity in the State and this can be gauged from the fact that in the Union Budget 2017-18 close to Rs. 400 crore were sanctioned for railway construction, which in itself is a record. For Una – Talwara Rs. 100 crore and Bhanupali – Bilaspur – Beri Rs. 250 crore were sanctioned in this financial year. Even in the railway budget 2016-17, Rs. 310 crore, 2015-16 Rs. 355 crore were sanctioned, while, during the regime of UPA Government only 40-50 crore used to get approved.
