Chandigarh, August 30, 2019: DRAFT ESTIMATE OF DAMAGE TO ROADS, BRIDGES AND BUILDINGS PREPARED: The State Public Works Department (B&R) has prepared the preliminary damage assessment report regarding the roads, bridges and buildings falling under jurisdiction of PWD (B&R), informed the official spokesman of Government of Punjab.
Giving details, he said that due to recent heavy rains and floods, approximately 1450 km Link Roads, 420 km Plan Roads/ National Highways, 36 Bridges and 36 buildings under jurisdiction of Public Works Department (B&R) have been damaged. The maximum Link roads and Plan roads damage has been observed in district Rupnagar wherein it is to the extent of 693.96 km and 123.1 km respectively.
Approximately, Rs. 95.50 crore is required for the repairs but the exact cost can be estimated only when the flood water recedes completely, he informed. He said that the basic patchwork and repair of road breaches is underway. With the release of requisite funds, subsequently, the major work of restoration of road infrastructure like replacing irreparable bridges, replacement of washed-away stretches and culverts etc. will be under taken at war-footing said he.

K K BAWA DONATES ONE MONTH SALARY INTO CM RELIEF FUND
Chandigarh: Chairman Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation (PSIDC) K K Bawa on Thursday donated one month salary into the Chief Minister Relief Fund for the assistance of victims ravaged by recent unprecedented floods.
Bawa, who met state Chief Secretary Sh. Karan Avtar Singh today, handed over letter to the latter donating his one month salary. Bawa also lauded the state government efforts ensuring immediate relief to the needy in this hour of crisis.

24X7 HEALTH SERVICES STILL BEING PROVIDED IN FLOOD AFFECTED AREAS
Ludhiana: The flood like situation has been totally under control in district Ludhiana now. The District Administration is not only providing relief material to the residents of flood affected areas, but good healthcare facilities. A permanent health checkup camp is being set up at village Garhi Fazil, besides health teams are also distributing medicines in other flood affected areas as well.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajesh Kumar Bagga informed that all doctors were immediately pressed on duty as they received the news of flood in district Ludhiana. He said doctors had been doing duty round the clock and all the crucial health services were being provided to the affected persons at their door steps. He said no case of vector borne or water borne disease had been noticed till now and the water level in the low lying areas had receded so there was no danger of outbreak of any epidemic in district Ludhiana.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Bagga further said that the health department had set up permanent health camps in the most flood affected villages like Ghari Fazal, Bholewal Qadeem and Nawan Khaira Bait whereas 16 teams of doctors had been doing rounds in other affected villages. He said that in each team besides a MBBS doctor there was one staff nurse, two paramedics had been included. He said that a roster of duty had also been made and the teams were available for service round the clock.
He said that during flood situation only 700 patients had come to take medicine. No case of skin infection had been reported. Department had stock of all the necessary medicines. He said that packets of O.R.S. and chlorine tablets were being distributed to the people in affected villages. One chlorine tablet is required for cleaning 20 litres of water. Once the tablet is put in water, the same water needs to be boiled continuously for 30 minutes and then that water should be consumed after filtering only when it cools down. Dr. Bagga said that for any medical emergency in district Ludhiana one can contact at helpline number 0161-2444193.

SDM’s SHOULD PERSONALLY SUPERVISE ASSESSMENT OF DAMAGE & RELIEF MEASURES: DC
Ludhiana: The Punjab government has already directed the Deputy Commissioners of flood affected districts to furnish details of damage in their respective districts. In this regard, a performa has been sent, in which a detailed report is being sent daily. Besides, the Revenue Officers have also been directed to execute special Girdawari. Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Pradeep Kumar Agrawal has directed the SDMs to personally supervise the entire assessment of damage so that relief measures are being provided to the affected persons on priority basis.
Agrawal said that report of the damage to the life and property and the detail of the activities being executed for relief and rehabilitation would be furnished to the Chief Minister’s Office daily on the template circulated by the CMO to all the districts. He said that complying to the CMO’s instructions, he had issued orders to concerned SDMs, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry, Civil Surgeon, District Food and Civil Supplies Controller, Superintending Engineer, PWD & Drainage to collect the date and send immediately to DC office.
The Deputy Commissioner said that CMO has instructed to send data pertaining to affected villages, damaged houses, loss to life and property including livestock, diseases break out, rehabilitation works done, breach occurred in bridges and embankments of rivers and present situation etc.
He said that this data was required to distribute relief material and grant to the affected citizens without any delay. He said that officers had been instructed to send report daily.
