Regional seminar on financial markets

Chandigarh, October 16, 2019: Regional Seminar on Financial Markets organized by Entrepreneurship and Corporate Relations Cell, University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, here today.
Speakers from Financial Regulators and intermediaries including Securities and Exchange Board of India, Multi Commodity Exchange, Reserve Bank of India, Bombay Stock Exchange, and SBI-Mutual Fund interacted with the participants.
Shri S.Prabhakar, DGM, SEBI discussed functionality of SEBI including investor protection through a surveillance mechanism and accountability of SEBI through SAT (Securities Appellate Tribunal). He gave suggestions to the students to consciously invest and be realistic and go for online trading.
Mr.Piyush Gupta, AGM, RBI talked about unauthorized acceptance of public deposits and necessity of NBCF’S in Indian economy.
Mr. Sanjay Gakhar, VP, Multi Commodity Exchange deliberated on Commodity derivative and said that commodities are impacted by international price, crude price and currency market. He gave insights on interlinkage of commodities market and FOREX market and also said that MCX plays an important role in deciding commodities future price,r isk management and volatility.
Mr. Gurbhajnik Singh, DVP, SBI-Mutual Funds had an interactive session on how to create wealth through mutual funds. He encouraged participants to attach investment with a certain goal and start early as early investments means higher returns.
Mr. Harbinder Singh Sokhi, Manager, Bombay Stock Exchange said that technology has played a greater role in development of exchanges. Retail investors are not aware of benefits of investments and only 4 to 5 per cent invest in capital markets.
Prof. Upasna Joshi Sethi appreciated ECRC team for their effort and said that such seminars are important for widening the horizons of students.
More than 330 participated in the seminar.
