Punjab government, National University Singapore & CII signs tripartite MoU

Chandigarh, November 5, 2015: with a view to open new vistas of investment in the state Punjab Government will prepare a master plan on ease of doing in Punjab under "vision-2020" to facilitate research and capacity building regarding business opportunities which would further take the state to the heights of economic prosperity.
This was disclosed by the Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr.Sukhbir Singh Badal after signing a tripartite agreement between Punjab Government, National University Singapore (NUS) and CII here today. He informed that the objective of this agreement is to collaborate and conduct joint research on all the issues and aspects related to the ease of doing business in Punjab.
This MoU was signed in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Mr Badal by CEO Invest Punjab Anirudh Tewari, research fellow Lee Kuan Yew school of public policy NUS Singapore Dr. Sasidaran Gopalan and Chairman CII Punjab State Council S.S. Bhogal. He said this MoU would help to deliberate on the strategy to create a level of understanding and determining parameters so as to carry out the business activities in Punjab in keeping with the message sent out by the success of 2ndProgressive Punjab Investor Summit-2015.
Speaking on this occasion CEO of Invest Punjab Anirudh Tewari informed the deputy CM that the Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) School of Public Policy NUS Singapore would conduct study on ease of doing business in Punjab and cover the various aspects in the state with the prime focus on investment attractiveness, manpower and competitiveness.
Speaking on this occasion NSU representative Sasidaran Gopalan informed the deputy CM that the draft plan of vision document-2020 would be prepared soon after meeting with all the stakeholders. He added that the study would bring into focus on state specific problems and help in drafting new policies by the state with special focus on creating conducive environment for existing industries. He also divulged that the study would also identify the potential areas which could be explored with regard to new investments and ease of doing business. He added that similar MoUs have also been inked with other states.
In the meeting chairman CII, Bhogal informed that CII and LKY school had earlier organised a workshop on enhancing the ease of doing business in Punjab to explore the bottlenecks and issues, if any being faced by industry besides policy and regulatory changes with respect to promoting investments and business especially for the existing Industry that could be recommended to the Punjab government.
Among others present on the occasion included principal secretary to Deputy CM PS Aujla, special secretary industries Amit Dhaka, Rahul Tewari special principal secretary to Deputy CM, Pikendarpal Singh regional director CII Punjab and Vincent Kwan research assistant Lee Kuan Yew School of NUS Singapore.
