PU Celebrates World Toilet Day by Centre for Public Health

Chandigarh, November 19, 2016: Students of Centre for Public Health, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh celebrated ‘World Toilet Day’ by organizing awareness campaign at Government School Sector 25 here today.
The students highlighted the importance of usage of toilets and harms of open defecation practices. Education was also given about benefits of personal hygiene and use of clean toilets and good sanitation practices. Proper hand washing methods were also demonstrated to the students. The students from school interacted with the team of students and shared their habits and queries regarding sanitation practices.
Coordinator, Centre for Public Health, PU, Dr Suman Mor said that the sanitation is a global development priority as Sustainable Development Goals, (SDG) 2015 has included a target to ensure access to toilets by 2030 to everyone. She also
stressed that appropriate toilets are important for women and girls to ensure their privacy and dignity. She informed that theme of this year is “Toilets and Jobs” as lack of sanitation can significantly impact the people’s livelihoods.
