PU-ISSER To Admit Second Batch To BA Honours In Social Sciences In July 2016

Chandigarh, May 24, 2016: Panjab University Institute of Social Sciences Education and Research (PU- ISSER) would soon invite applications for Integrated Five year Honours programme BA Honours.
PU Fellow & Dean Faculty of Arts, Prof Ronki Ram and Coordinator of PU-ISSER, Prof Reeta Grewal informed that the admission schedule is yet to be finalized by the University but the applications for admissions are likely to be submitted in first week of the June.
The Five Year Integrated Programme in Social Sciences was introduced at PU-ISSER in the session July 2015. It has successfully completed two semesters and is ready to admit its second batch tentatively on 11th July 2016.
The Applications for admission to Semester I of the Five Year Integrated Programme in Social Sciences will be accepted according to the schedule shortly to be announced by the Panjab University. Admission will be on the basis of merit in the +2 examination. The Forms could be downloaded from the PU website: forms www.pu.ac.in and submitted to the PU-ISSER office at first floor, Guru Tegh Bahadur Bhawan (near Main PU Market) between 9am to 5 pm on all working days in the announced schedule.
The candidates with at least 55% marks in the + 2 examination conducted by a Board/University/Council recognized by the Panjab University, are eligible to apply, along with self attested copies of their 10th and +2 certificates. Candidates with Social Sciences at the +2 level will be given additional weightage of 10% in the calculation of merit . For the present session there will be 50 seats +10 for NRI/Foreign Students. The fee for the course is approximately Rs. 13,000 per annum,in two installments; plus other University charges.
The students would be provided foundational knowledge in various Social Sciences subjects like Geography, History, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Public Administration, Psychology and Philosophy. The course would follow choice based credit system and comprises of discipline specific electives, Skill enhancement courses, as per latest stipulation by UGC. The programme envisages a focus on logical reasoning, use of classical and development of writing skills to analyse and present evidence.
The senior faculty of the social science departments comes together to teach the programme at PU-ISSER and work in collaboration with the Centres and Institutes on the PU campus.
PU Spokesperson informed that the PU-ISSER has been able to catch the fancy of students from different states as the students from Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh took admissions in the first batch of the five year integrated honours programme in Social Sciences. He informed that 91 percent was the cut off for the General Category seats in year 2015-16.
