Ludhiana, April 23, 2016: A new mobile app "Mum2Be" for expectant mothers was launched by senior IAS officer and Principal Secretary of Health & Family Welfare Department Mrs Vini Mahajan at Circuit House, here today. A brainchild of Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Mr Ravi Bhagat, this mobile is yet another initiative of Mr Bhagat of connecting the city residents with new age technology. It is pertinent to mention that this mobile app was developed under the supervision of ADC (Development) Miss Apneet Riyait by a group of women and its launching was also done by a senior IAS officer, Mrs Vini Mahajan.
While speaking to media persons on the launching of this mobile app, Mrs Vini Mahajan said that this app has been designed and developed by a company named "Synergy Group" under Corporate Social Responsibility activity. With the help of this mobile app, the expectant mothers will be sent reminders about necessary tests, immunisation and medicines during their pregnancy days as well as after the delivery. She also appreciated the efforts of DC Mr Ravi Bhagat and said that this mobile app would also help in bringing out the number of deaths during pregnancy or at the time of delivery.
While providing information about this app, Deputy Commissioner Mr Ravi Bhagat said that this GPS enabled app has been linked with all hospitals and dispensaries of the Ludhiana district. He said that when the expectant mothers would get reminders, they would also get details about the nearest government hospitals and dispensaries. He said that the app would keep on sending reminders till the time the expectant mother gets her tests done, gets immunised or takes medicine.
He said that although the locations of only Ludhiana district have been fed in this app, but it can be used pan india. He said for using this mobile app, the use would have to download it free of cost from Google Play Store (for android users) and from App Store (for iphone users) by typing "Mum2Be". Once downloaded, the users will not have to use internet, repeated sign in or registration for using this app.
While speaking on the need for developing this mobile app, Mr Bhagat said that the maternal mortality in India is 26/1000, which is a serious cause of concern. He said that the main reason behind this is that women don't take proper care regarding immunisation, tests, medicines and diet during their pregnancy time. Due to which, there is deficiency of iron, blood, blood pressure and other such things. Mr Ravi Bhagat said that this app would also send advance reminder about the user's delivery date so that she can get admitted in a hospital on time.
He said that this mobile app was developed under the supervision of ADC (D) Miss Apneet Riyait, Civil Surgeon Dr Renu Chhatwal, Dr Mandeep Kaur, from Synergy Group Mr Preet Chandoke, Miss Mandeep and Miss Ashima. The Deputy Commissioner has appealed to the city residents to use this mobile app in large numbers so that the maternal mortality rate is checked.
It is pertinent to mention that another mobile app "i-Sehat", launched by the Deputy Commissioner has been adopted by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for its use pan India.
