Ludhiana, July 18, 2016: The Municipal Corporation Ludhiana has become first MC in the entire Punjab to get wireless solar traffic lights installed in the entire Punjab. The lights have become functional while installation of new traffic lights on other important points is also moving at fast pace. The officials claimed that by the end of this month all the new traffic lights would become functional for the easy movement of the traffic.
The wireless solar lights have been installed at Lodhi Club Chowk and Rajguru Nagar Chowk on Ferozepur Road and by Monday they have become functional. These lights would function with the help of sunlight and also no wires have been installed. However the officials claimed that first of all they conducted detailed study before getting these lights installed as once Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) had tried installing wireless traffic light but it did not function properly. Also they visited Dhuri as there also such experiment was done. But even there results were not satisfactory. Therefore now the officials have added a clause that contractor would maintain these lights for five years time just to see the results.
The new traffic lights are being installed at important traffic bottlenecks including Pratap Chowk, Dugri Canal Bridge near Southern Bypass, Dugri phase 1, Veer Palace Chowk Chandigarh Road, Manju Cinema, Gill Chowk, Sabzi Mandi and petrol pump cut Salem Tabri, Pakhowal Road, Udham Singh Nagar, Shimlapuri Cut, Gill Road and Pakhowal Road junction Southern bypass. Out of these eight points have been made functional and rest lights would also become functional shortly.
The executive engineer Balwinder Singh told that the installation process is complete and they are getting the lights functional as soon as possible. He also shared that the upgradation of the existing 28 traffic lights is also going on but it would take almost one month to complete the procedure.
Meanwhile, the MCL Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori told that they are doing efforts to ease off traffic on crucial points and new traffic lights would help in doing the same. He shared that advanced traffic lights are being installed so that there should be synchronization between two traffic lights points and solar traffic lights are also a new thing. He told if solar lights would become successful they can try them at other locations as well.
