MLA Amrik Singh Dhillon urges farmers to adopt water saving techniques in farming

Ludhiana, September 3, 2019: The Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Samrala today organised Kisan Mela for the farmers under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan. This mela was inaugurated by Samrala MLA Mr Amrik Singh Dhillon, while Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal was the guest of honour.
While speaking on the occasion, Amrik Singh Dhillon appreciated the efforts of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and urged the farmers to adopt water saving techniques in farming that can prove beneficial for the coming generations. He said that the underground water table is depleting fast and said that if it continued at the same pace, water would become a rare commodity for our future generations.
Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said that keeping in mind depleting underground water table, the Jal Shakti Abhiyan is being run as a “jan andolan”. He said that the farmers as well as other residents are being educated about ways to save water. He urged everyone to become part of this campaign and stressed on adopting rainwater harvesting technique if we want to recharge depleting underground water table.
On this occasion, KVK Samrala Assistant Director Dr SC Sharma spoke in detail about the activities of KVK Samrala. This function was attended by more than 100 farmer men and women.
The scientists from PAU Ludhiana also made the farmers aware about ways and techniques to save our crops from diseases and also held a question answer session. An exhibition was also organised on the occasion.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Baldev Singh also appealed to the farmers not to burn paddy straw keeping in mind the 550th year Parkash Purab celebrations of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. MLA Amrik Singh Dhillon also distributed appreciation letters to the NGO’s and other social organisations that have contributed in saving our environment.
