GOVERNMENT MULLS TO IMPART FOUR WHEELER DRIVING TRAINING TO NEWLY RECRUITED COPS-HEALTH MINISTER ASSURES HOUSE

Chandigarh, February 14, 2019: Punjab Health Minister Brahm Mohindra on Thursday assured the House that the State was seriously contemplating to impart training of four wheelers driving to newly recruited cops in the Punjab Police to enable them to discharge their duties far more efficaciously.

This assurance was given by the Minister on behalf of the Chief Minister, who authorised him to respond the call attention raised by MLA Dr. Dharambir Agnihotri regarding absence of vehicle driving training to the new recruits at Police Training Centre at Jahaan Khelan, District Hoshiarpur. He stated that in case four wheeler training programme was to be included in the basic curriculum then the necessary infrastructure and training staff had to be provided and training duration would also be extended, the feasibility of which was being examined by the Government.

The Minister also apprised the House that Police Recruits Training Centre, Jahan Khelan, Hoshiarpur was imparting Basic Training to the newly recruited constables of Punjab Police District Cadre, Intelligence, IT&T and Special Protection unit. The duration of basic training course is 9 months, in which training Constables of District Police Cadre were imparted 50% outdoor and 50% indoor training as per the prescribed curriculum.

The provision of two wheelers driving already exists in the syllabus of basic training course, while those recruits who do not know two wheeler driving are imparted necessary driving training during the course, he added. The Minister said that as of now a four wheeler driving license was not a necessary requirement for the job and presently, there were no arrangements in terms of driving tracks, instruments and vehicles available at this Centre for four wheeler driving training to the cops.
