Chandigarh, March 6, 2019: The three day event namely MICROCON 2019 kick started at Panjab University, Chandigarh here today, organized by Department of Microbial Biotechnology and Cluster Innovation Centre in Biotechnology BioNest. Prof.Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh in his address said that research bridges the gap between corporates and scientists. The academician and corporates can translate our dreams into reality and can help fast development of the nation. He stressed on the need of integration and consolidation of entire nation and said that research and innovation is most important which can be instrumental in taking PU to greater heights. Dr.Ajit Sapre, Group President R&T, Reliance Industries Ltd, Mumbai in his keynote address on “Green and sustainable synthetic biology platform at RIL” talked in details about the global challenges facing the world. He said that integration of science and technology is important for societal benefits. He added that there is a strong bond between corporate world, scientists and researchers. He talked about fourth industrial revolution and mentioned about age of cognification which will bring change in the way we work, the way we think and the way we relate to each other. He talked about amalgamation of digital technology and physical biology which was great impact on economy. First session highlighted biopharmaceuticals & medical technology in which Dr. Ajith Kamath, Mitra Biotech, Bengaluru, Prof. Prince Sharma, Department of Microbiology, PU, Chd. And Prof. Purnananda Guptasarma, IISER, Mohali spoke about the existing thrust areas in the field of Biopharmaceuticals and medical technologies. The session speakers also spoke about the upcoming opportunities. The session was chaired by Dr. Santanu Dasgupta, Senior Vice President, Head of Biology, Reliance Industries Limited, Mumbai and was Co-chaired by Prof. Jagat Bhushan, Dr. Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital, PU, Chandigarh The second session specifically introduced BIOPROCESS ENGINEERING & ENZYME TECHNOLOGY the session spoke about innovations in enzyme technology that address novel ways to apply enzymes in bioprocesses also have an impact on bioprocess engineering. this advanced session will help students and innovators to explore new avenues, molecular and natural methodologies for to produce/explore enzymes that care capable of industrial renaissance. Great number of startups, students and researchers from within Panjab University and tri-city institutions registered and attended the program.
