Ludhiana, April 9, 2014: Hepatitis C is a major public health problem in our state. Rapid advancements are being made in developing new drug molecules which may change the entire scenario of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) patient care, said Prof Yogesh Chawla (Director, PGIMER Chandigarh), while addressing the audience of physicians at a CME organised by The Ludhiana Chapter of Indian Academy of Clinical Medicine at Hotel Park Plaza.
This was third CME conducted by IACM in the city. Dr. Chawla delivered a talk on ‘Recent Advances in the management of ‘Hepatitis C’. Present treatment of hepatitis C includes combination with intergeron injections and nbavirin.  The oral drugs are likely to come in to Indian markets in few years and would provide hope to all HCV suffered.
Dr. Ajay Duseja, Associate Professor from Deptt. Of Hepatology, PGIMER, Chandigarh spoke on ‘Diagnosis and management issues with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease’.  He emphasized it to be a lifestyle disorder.  He said that non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is fast becoming one of the top concerns because of its potential to progress to advances liver disease.  It is associated with obesity, diabetes and elevated blood flats. He emphasized on the role of healthy living and eating. CME was attended by more than 100 doctors including all the prominent Gastroenterologists and Physicians of the region.  Prof. L.S.Chawla, Prof. Ajit Sood, Prof. Geetanjli Pawar, Prof. Rajoo Singh Chhina, Dr. Ajit Chawla and Dr. R.K.Kakara chaired the sessions.
Dr. Sandeep Puri, Chairman of IACM informed that the local chapter regularly conducts CME programmes on important medical issue in the city and The Ludhiana Chapter will host the National Conference of IACM in the year 2015.
The executive members of IACM including Dr. Gursaran Sidhu, Vikas Loomba, Dr. Vandana Midha and Dr. Dinesh Jain conducted the CME proceedings.
