KMV to organize 3-day international workshop on “gender equity and inclusion: transformative pathways in higher education”
Jalandhar, September 16, 2019: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, is going to organize a three day International Workshop on “Gender Equity and Inclusion: Transformative Pathways in Higher Education”. Throwing more light on it, Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that this unique workshop is being hosted by KMV in collaboration with (WISCOMP) Women in Security, Conflict Management and Peace, a New Delhi based South Asian organization supported by Public Affairs Section of American Embassy, New Delhi. This workshop aims to facilitate a stimulating exchange between eminent educators, administrators, civil society representatives from Punjab, New Delhi and USA scholars. Kanya Maha Vidyalaya has always stood at the forefront as a crusader against women suppression, hence has created a special niche for itself by taking path breaking initiatives while responding to the most pertinent issues related to empowering women since its inception in 1886. Being premier women educational institution, KMV is an eminent and befitting place for hosting this unique workshop. Kanya Maha Vidyalaya’s senior management, faculty and students will participate in this workshop. It will also witness the participation of faculty from Ambedkar University, Delhi, Punjabi University, Patiala, Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur, Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Nakodar & Trinity College, Jalandhar among others. During the 3 day International Workshop, eminent American scholars Prof. Kristy E. Kelly from Columbia University, USA, Denys P. Leighton, Mr Conrad Turner, Counselor for Cultural Affairs US Embassy, Dr Maina Chawla Singh American University Washington DC, Prof. Rukmini Sen Department of Sociology, Dr.Vandana Vasudevan renowned writer, Dr Anandini Dar Prof. School of Education Studies, Delhi, Dr Rakhi Kalita Monal Cotton University, Guwahati, Shilpi Shabdita & Diksha Poddai, WISCOMP & Nilyakalyani Ramasubramanian, noted scholar will make valuable contribution. The Inaugural Session will commence in the Conference Hall at 9:30 a.m. on September 17, 2019. It will be graced by Chander Mohan, President, Arya Shiksha Mandal. Dr Meenakshi Gopinath, Director WISCOMP. Kamla Bhasin, Noted Acclaimed Women’s right activist will deliver a public lecture as part of the workshop on 18th September 2019 at 9:30 a.m. in the college auditorium on the role of educational institutions and collective action by women, men and trans persons to build inclusive and gender just society. An interesting feature of this workshop is Youth Speak: Young Voices from Across the Campuses which will include artistic & highly thought provoking performances of KMVites. This program will be held on September 18, 2019. She also lauded the exemplary initiative of WISCOMP under the able & sterling leadership of Dr M. Gopinath, Director WISCOMP. She maintained that Dr Meenakshi Gopinath, WISCOMP Director had averred that KMV will be the hub for gender equity initiatives in North India and will contribute colossally to the cause. Dr Gopinath had also maintained that the focus of WISCOMP is to link Universities and Colleges in Tier II cities to Universities in metros, to provide a platform to collaborate with gender experts from American Universities to craft and share best practices. It is a matter of pride that in this part of the region, KMV has taken the lead. She appreciated WISCOMP for this HAMSA: Campus Equity Initiative. Madam Principal further adumbrated that it has been equally fulfilling and challenging opportunity for her to act as the Coordinator of the project.
