Jalandhar, October 6, 2016: Department of Chemistry, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar organised an educational trip to premier institute IMTECH (Institute of Microbial Technology), Sector 39, Chandigarh under DBT Star College Scheme with a view that students will have exposure to research, lab to land technology and hands on instruments and much more.
At the onset, students of B.Sc. 2nd and 3rd accompanied by Dr. Updesh Kaur and three faculty members were welcomed by the authorities of IMTECH and internationally renowned scientists who had many patents to their credits like Dr. Ashish Ganguly, Dr. Kailash Bhambre and Dr. Suresh Korpore. They interacted with the students by giving them overview of the research fields available at IMTECH and also briefing them with their current research.
Students had a chance of visiting various research labs dealing with Chemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Fermentation labs, Cryopreservation area, Nitrogen Plant to name a few. At Fermentation Lab, students were deliberated upon lab to land technology.
Dr. Suresh Korpore gave information about microbial diversity of aerobic and anaerobic ecosystem and their biotechnological applications. At the same time, students came to know about the techniques used for preservation of various microbial cultures which has been preserved there since 40 years. 50 students were benefited from this educational trip. Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi said that this educational trip are helpful to enhance the intellectual and practical knowledge of students and faculty.
