Chandigarh, November 27, 2016: Panjab University (PU) Syndicate today recommended the Kala Rattan, Sahitya Rattan and Vigyan Rattan awards to noted actor and PU alumnus Shri. Anupam Kher; noted Litterateur and PU alumna Prof (Ms.) Dalip Kaur Tiwana; and Director Raja Ramanna Centre for Advance Technology, Indore and PU alumnus Dr. PD Gupta respectively.
PU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Arun Kumar Grover presided over the Syndicate meeting. Addressing the meeting, Prof Grover informed that Shri Anupam Kher has offered a scholarship to support one student in the Department of Indian Theatre of PU throughout his lifetime. He also informed that Mrs. Ann Zammit has donated 5,000 UK Pound i.e. Rs. 4,15,650/- to the PU Department of Economics as an endowment fund in memory of her husband and former Dr Manmohan Singh Chair Professor at PU, Late Prof Ajit Singh to support an annual Prof Ajit Singh Memorial Lecture at the PU Department of Economics.
In another major decision, PU Syndicate approved the proposal to offer the first Olympian Balbir Singh Sr. Chair Professorship to Olympic Gold Medalist Shri Abinav Bindra in the Department of Physical Education at PU Campus.
PU Syndicate recommended to appoint PU fellow Dr. Emanual Nahar as the new Dean Students Welfare (DSW) at PU. The Syndicate approved Prof Neena Capalash as the DSW (Women) and Prof Rattan Singh as the new Associate DSW at PU.
PU Syndicate recommended the faculty allotment to the new PU fellows, whose term would start from November 1, 2016. The new senate would meet on December 17 (Saturday) and would take a final call on the faculty allotment to the new PU fellows.
Among other decisions considered today, PU Syndicate has desired that Panjab University Committee Against Sexual Harassment (PUCASH) ought to complete the enquiry into the pending complaint by a faculty member against the Vice Chancellor within 15 days period in a time bound manner.
PU Syndicate also considered the minutes of Joint Consultative Machinery (JCM) with regard to confirming the contractual employee and decided to send the proposal for legal opinion.
