Chandigarh, November 28, 2016: Preparing teacher educators to develop social sensitivity, consciousness and finer human sensibilities is part of MEd curriculum. To fulfill this objective MEd students of Panjab University (PU) did a survey on provisions of Right to Education (RTE), Adult literacy and digital literacy in Kasauli village near Chandigarh. The purpose was to know about the extent to which various provisions given under RTE are being fulfilled in villages which are in close proximity of Chandigarh. They collected data from all the households with regard to the present status of elementary and adult education and digital literacy of the villagers.
Prof Nandita Singh informed that the program was designed in a way so as to make them aware of the challenges and opportunities available for students studying in rural settings. She along with her students motivated the villagers to follow the
footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation in keeping their village and its surroundings clean. Students conducted door to door survey, filled questionnaire and interacted with villagers. Programme was Co-ordinated by Sonika Sombal senior
research fellow. Dr. Seema Kapoor and Sarpanch of the village helped the students to conduct the survey smoothly. Group Leaders Mahima and Gurjeet Singh stated that such interactions with villagers are essential to bridge rural and urban divide and
develop an appreciation of each other.
