Ashwani Sekhri unanimously elected as the Chairman of JAC

Ludhiana, May 16, 2018: A meeting of Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising 13 different Associations (representing over 1000 Unaided Colleges of Punjab) was held today. With the consent of all members of the Committee, Confederation of Punjab Unaided Institutions was also inducted as the 14th Association in JAC.

The meeting was attended by Sh. Ashwani Sekhri, Ex- Health and Labour Minister, Punjab; Sh. Jagjit Singh, President, B.Ed Federation ; S. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Academic Advisory Forum (AAF); Sh. Anil Chopra, Confederation of Punjab Unaided Institutions; Dr. Anshu Kataria, President, PUCA; S Rajinder Dhanoa, Polytechnic Association; Mr. Charanjit Walia, President, Nursing Colleges Association; S. Nirmal Singh, ETT Federation; Mr. Shimanshu Gupta, ITI Association; S. Sukhmander Singh Chatha, Punjab Unaided Degree Colleges Association(PUDCA); Sh. Vipin Sharma, Doaba Unaided Colleges Association (DUCA) etc.

In the meeting Sh. Ashwani Sekhri was unanimously elected as the Chairman of JAC whereas Dr. Anshu Kataria, President, PUCA was requested to continue as the Spokesperson of JAC.

The committee members discussed various action plans to save the Unaided Colleges of Punjab & decided that a delegation of JAC would soon meet Ministers of the State as well as the Centre to urge for the release of Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) funds at the earliest.

Chairman, JAC said that said that a total of Rs 1,673.24 Crore is due towards the Centre Government out of which for the year 2015-2016 a sum of Rs 328.72 crore and for the year 2016-2017 Rs 719.52 crore and for the Year 2017-18 Rs 625 Crore is due from the Centre Government.

The delegation also met Sh. Parveen Kumar Thind, Director Technical Education & Sh. Chander Gaind, IAS, Secretary, PSBTEIT and apprised them about te problems being faced by the Engineering, Polytechnic, ITI Colleges.

Sekhri thanked the Committee members for showing faith in him. He assured that he will do his best for the Education fraternity.
