Flash Mob held at 17 Plaza on ‘One Billion Rising for Justice’ Day

Chandigarh, February 14, 2014: The day of 14 February is not only the Valentine’s Day, but it is also the day of “1 Billion Rising for Justice”, a worldwide movement in favour of the women’s safety and freedom. The heart of City Beautiful, Sector 17 Plaza, witnessed a huge support for this movement through a Flash Mob by the volunteers of Humanity organisation and other city youths. The flash mob event was based on the guiding slogan of the movement “Rise, Release, Dance’. It all happened during the rain.
A street play “Insaniyat Ki Maut: The Death of Humanity” was also performed by the members of Alankaar Theatre group. The theme of the play involved few important aspects related to the women. The small play highlighted the objectification of women in the advertising world, indifferent role of police towards the crimes against women, increase in domestic violence and the low status of women in the society.
Taranpreet Singh, founder, Humanity – Sharing Smiles, a non government organisation, said, “Last year on 14 February, one billion women and men shook the earth through dance to end violence against women and girls. To commemorate this special day, we appealed to all the concerned people to harness their power and imagination to rise for justice. This is our way of supporting the movement.”
The event was supported by XR KROME, Mansa Setting Standards and Chandigarh Dance Academy. ‘Humanity’ is a city-based non-government organisation working for the smiles of people. The two-years old NGO previously organised similar awareness events such as the ‘Kaksha Meri Dost’ and the ‘Candle Vigil’.
Over 100 youths participated in the event witnessed by a huge crowd. Prominent among those who participated in the flash mob included Humanity vice president Harjinder Singh, general secretary Gurcharan Singh, and members – Kirandeep Kaur, Neha Bodh, Pranvat, Umrao Singha and Sakshi.//Chandigarh news online,  Chandigarh news in English, Chandigarh news,  Chandigarh current news,  Chandigarh news live, Chandigarh breaking news, Chandigarh headlines, Chandigarh latest news, world news,
