Government employees using ballot paper should maintain secrecy of voting

Chandigarh, April 29, 2014: The Additional Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab Raminder Singh today said that all the Government employees using ballot papers should know that secrecy of voting should be maintained by the election staff under all circumstances.
He said that there were rumors that serial numbers of postal ballots issued to various government employees performing election duty have been leaked out to some vested interested who can misuse the same later on. It was reiterated that as per the Section 128 of R.P.Act 1951, secrecy of voting shall be maintained under all circumstances and any person who contravenes this provision of act shall be punishable with imprisonment after 3 months.
He further said that for the information of general public that rule 54 of the conduct of Election Rules 1961 should be strictly followed and no person would be allowed to violate the provisions of Act.
