Chandigarh, November 17, 2014: Members of Parliament from Punjab today promised to give a total facelift to 19 villages adopted by them under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, on pilot basis, by ensuring massive development and cleanliness besides social, cultural development of rural belts with collective responsibility and action.
While participating in orientation program for Members of Parliament and District Collectors here at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, the MPs and Deputy Commissioners took pledge to provide all needful support in planning, implementation of program at grass root level vis-a-vis bringing best practices to make these villages as Adarsh villages. The MPs lauded the vision of Prime Minister for all round development of villages ensuring active participation of elected representatives of all parties, bureaucracy and rural population. They said adopted villages would be made model grams under all existing government schemes and programs. They said the primary focus would be inculcated pride in village, encourage societal change, moving ahead with collective responsibility and initiate people projects.
Punjab Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Sikander Singh Maluka, who was also the chief coordinator of orientation program, said this program would surely witness change in the existing setup by converging and implementing existing schemes. He said this system is so transparent that we can access the output and outcome on the ground. He said primarily 19 villages have been adopted by 13 Lok Sabha and 6 Rajya Sabha members with a target to give these a total facelift by 2016 making these ‘model villages’. He also exhorted Deputy Commissioners to make this program a big success by regularly monitoring the ongoing development and cleanliness initiatives in the adopted villages.
Member Parliament from Patiala Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi in his address emphasised to ensure active and healthy participation of panchayats and rural population to execute this program at ground level. He said he has adopted Marori village with main focus to eliminate drug addiction. He said he would also try his best to create requisite infrastructure in villages including toilets, supply of potable water, timely cleanliness and renovation of village ponds with the help of local residents and administration.
Faridkot Member Parliament Prof. Sadhu Singh stressed the need to launch an awareness campaign so that panchayats can come forward to implement this scheme in their respective villages. He said after making the adopted 19 villages as model grams, this scheme would be implemented in entire state to enable all villages as Model villages.
Jalalabad Member Parliament Sher Singh Ghubaya we all should make this trial a massive success so this could be extended to other remote areas of the state. He said with this initiative we can bring prosperity and over all development by providing all basic amenities including quality education in border villages, employment generation and de-addiction through mass awareness.
Describing this initiative a game changer in social, cultural, healthcare, education and employment sector, Rajya Sabha Member Balwinder Singh Bhunder MPs, Deputy Commissioners could become catalyst to provide basic facilities to needy rural population including health facilities, launching the concept of smart schools, pucca houses to villagers besides other basic facilities. He said he has adopted Kot Dharmu village of Mansa district, where he would try to bring massive transformation in all areas.
Meanwhile all Deputy Commissioners participating in the orientation program promised to execute SAGY at grass root level in true spirit.
It is pertinent to mention here that Punjab MPs including Ranjit Singh Brahmpura from Khadoor Sahib constituency has adopted Munda Pind, Sangrur MP Bhagwant Singh chose Benra village, Anandpur Sahib MP Prem Singh Chandumajra adopted Daun village, village Dhaul Kalan of Amritsar has been adopted by Captain Amarinder Singh, Amritsar MP, Fatehgarh Kortana village of Faridkot by Prof. Sadhu Singh, Ganna Pind of Jalandhar district by local MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary, Chunni Kalan of Fatehgarh Sahib by MP Harinder Singh Khalsa, Aladinpur village of Amritsar by Rajya Sabha Member Dr. Manohar Singh Gill, Gulari village of Sangrur by Rajya Sabha Member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Adamwal village of Hoshiarpur district by Rajya Sabha member Avinash Rai Khanna, Budhabarh by Hoshiarpur MP and Union Minister of State Vijay Sampla, Hardopathwala village of Gurdaspur district by Ashwani Kumar, Rajya Sabha MP, Dhandi Kadim village of Fazilka by MP Sher Singh Ghubaya, Talibpur Pindori village of Gurdaspur by local MP Vinod Khanna, Kot Dharmu of Mansa district by Balwinder Singh Bhunder Member Rajya Sabha, Dheena village of Jalandhar district by Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Gujral, Issewal village of Ludhiana district by Member Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu and Mann village of Sri Muktsar Sahib by MP and Union Cabinet Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
