Mohali/Chandigarh, January 13, 2015: Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, Education Minister Punjab today held a high level meeting with the district education officers (secondary and elementary education) to review the working of the department and to chalk out annual plan on the basis of infrastructural needs and other priorities of the education department in the next session.
The meeting which was conducted at Sikhya Bhawan at Mohali , the minister issued strict instructions for the officers to implement the anti–copying campaign effectively .he also directed them to prepare the data base of their respective districts vis- a–vis number of students and infrastructural needs.
Education minister directed the DEOs to nominate one subject expert for each subject in the district to examine the syllabus books. DEOs were told to send at least ten suggestions after the examination of the syllabus books so that amendment could be made in the syllabus from the coming session. In the first phase syllabus books of fifth and tenth standard could be examined. Dr cheema also exorted the DEOs to strengthen the career guidance counselling cell.
“Database of mobile numbers of the parents of all students of 5th and 10th standard should also be prepared so that they could be intimated about the new professional courses through SMS” advised Dr. Cheema.
Dr. Cheema also instructed the District Education Officers (D.E.O.) to regularly conduct the checks of schools at district level so that better academic atmosphere prevails at schools. He also asked the D.E.O.s to sort out the problems of students, parents and teachers at district level so that they don,t have to make rounds of head office. He also instructed that in this regard, a day in the week should be fixed to listen to the grievances of the public.
Keeping in view forthcoming annual examinations, Dr. Cheema said that a campaign to totally eradicate the menace of copying has been initiated and the role of district level officials assumes great importance to make it a grand success. He laid stress on making the students more and more aware about the ill effects of copying. He gave instructions to the D.E.O.s to make adequate provisions for clean drinking water in the schools falling in the district and if there is any problem in this regard then temporary arrangements should be made and a master plan be prepared for permanent arrangements.
The meeting was attended by the principal secretary C. Roul, DGSE Pardeep Aggarwal, DPI Secondary Balbir Singh, DPI Elementary Darshan Kaur, Additional State Project Director JP Singh and Deputy State Project Director Dr. Ginni Duggal.
