District administration vows to make Ludhiana plastic free
Ludhiana, October 3, 2019: In a bid to save environment and promote Mission Tandrust Punjab of the state government, the District Administration has vowed to make district Ludhiana plastic free. Under the first phase of this plan, the students of Skill Development Centres and members of Self Help Groups associated with the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) office would be trained for manufacturing cloth-based carry bags, which would then be sold by setting up kiosks in different parts of the district. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Amrit Singh today visited the DRDA Skill Development Centre, that has been set up in District Administrative Complex, here, and also interacted with the students/trainees there. She said that the district administration is formulating a plan wherein the students/trainees of Skill Development Centres and members of Self Help Groups would be trained in manufacturing of cloth-based carry bags, that would be further sold in the market by setting up kiosks. She said that this initiative is aimed at bringing down the use of plastic-based carry bags so that everyone contributes in saving our environment. She informed that under the steps being taken by Punjab Government to provide skill education and training to youth, the District Administration has opened new DRDA Skill Development Centre in District Administrative Complex, here and training related to the hosiery industry is being imparted in this centre. She informed that boys and girls aged between 18-40 years and having 5th standard pass can get admission in this four-month (300 hours) course. She further informed that there are 60 seats available for the course and training is being imparted on high-tech machines which were brought by keeping in the view of modernisation of the Industry. Amrit Singh said that classes in two batches of 30 students each have already started. The same course has also been started in R-Seti building at Hambran Road, here, where the candidates can also take admission. A student will be provided practical training in the industry in the last month of the course. She said that this course is free of cost for SC students and the students belonging to BPL families of backward classes and general categories will have to pay fee Rs 200 per month. Likewise, the fee for backward classes and general categories will be Rs 400 and 500 respectively. After completing course trainees will be given certificates and can get handsome salaries in hosiery industries. She was also accompanied by Avtar Singh, Assistant Project Officer, ADC (D) Office, besides others.
