Detroit Pistons appoint Van Gundy as coach

Washington, May 15 (IANS) Detroit Pistons have appointed Stan Van Gundy as the head coach and president of its basketball operations.

Van Gundy had a 371-208 overall coaching history in NBA. He led the Orlando Magic to the National Basketball Association (NBA) finals in 2009, reports Xinhua.

"Stan is a proven winner in our league," said Pistons owner Tom Gores in a statement.

"He instils his teams with passion, purpose and toughness. He is a great teacher who will help our players grow and develop," he added.
