DC Ludhiana Mr Rajat Agarwal on Tuesday honours Junior World Boxing Champion Mandeep Kaur Sandhu.

Ludhiana, May 26, 2015: Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajat Agarwal said that for promoting sports culture in Punjab, the state government will soon be recruiting 125 sportspersons in the police department. He said that this decision was taken in the recently held Punjab Cabinet Meeting. Deputy Commissioner Mr Rajat Agarwal today extended warm welcome to the "Golden Girl" Junior World Champion Miss Mandeep Kaur Sandhu today on her arrival in Ludhiana. She was also honoured on the occasion.
After winning the coveted title of Junior World Championship of Boxing held at Taipei (Taiwan), the boxer was on her way back to village Chakar (District Ludhiana). Education Minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema had also announced a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh to Miss Mandeep Kaur Sandhu. 
Today morning, Miss Mandeep Kaur Sandhu, along with her parents Jagdev Singh and Daljit Kaur, coach Surinder Kaur and brother Jagwinder Singh and Chakar village residents was greeted in the Mini Secretariat amidst cheers and clapping of fans, parents, coaches and sports lovers.
Speaking on the occasion the Deputy Commissioner said that is a rare and splendid achievement of a daughter of the soil of Punjab. He said that for promoting sports culture in the state, the Punjab cabinet has approved the recruitment of 125 sportspersons in police department. He informed that the sports persons would be recruited for the posts of DSP, Sub Inspector and Constable as per their achievements in the national and international sports events.
Jagraon MLA Mr S R Kler, who was also present on the occasion, said that elated over her achievement, the Punjab Government has also announced to sanction two wings (U-14 Girls and U-17 Boys) of Boxing for Government School of village Chakar. He informed that each wing would accommodate 13 boxers.
Canada-based NRI Mr Baldev Singh Sidhu, patron of Sher-e-Punjab Sports Academy, village Chakar, said that they would continue to support raw sporting talent in rural areas of the state and would polish them to become world champions. He proudly said that Mandeep Kaur Sandhu is also a product of Sher-e-Punjab Sports Academy.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Jagraon SDM Mr Rakesh Kumar Popli, DEO (Secondary) Mrs Paramjit Kaur Chahal, Mr Balwant Singh Sandhu, District Sports Officer Mr Mahinder Singh, AEO (Sports) Mr Ajit Pal Singh, besides several others.
Later, Mandeep Kaur Sandhu was also honoured at Government Senior Secondary School, Jagraon.
