DBT sponsored 2-day “DAV Science Galleria” concluded at DAV College

Jalandhar, October 20, 2019: DBT sponsored two-day “DAV Science Galleria” was concluded at DAV College, Jalandhar with the theme “Science in the service of humanity”, in which various competitions were organized to connect the students with science and to use it for the service of humanity. The first guest at this Science Galleria was Dr.Anish Dua (Head of Department of Zoology and Director Hospitality, GNDU). While the other day, Dr.B.S.Kaith (Head of Department, Chemistry, NIT) was presented as the Chief Guest who was welcomed by Principal Dr.S.K.Arora, Convenor Prof.Karuna Mittal, Coordinator Dr.Rajiv Sharma and Organizing Secretary Prof.Punit Puri by offering a panicle. After which Science Galleria was started with the lighting of the lamp. On this occasion, the Principal of the college, Dr. S. K. Arora welcomed the Chief Guest, all the professors and students on their arrival at the Science Galleria. He said that Science not only makes our life comfortable but it also makes invaluable contribution in the service of humanity. That is why the theme of our Science Galleria is also "Science in the Service of humanity". And we hope that all of you will learn new things of technology and enjoy it in this two-day Science Galleria. He congratulated the Science Department of the College for organizing this Science Galleria. On this occasion, Dr. Anish Dua, the Chief Guest of the event, congratulated the DAV College for organizing this Science Galleria. Science fair is a competition in which competitors present their ideology and experience. Science fairs provide an opportunity for students to develop interest in Science and Technology and to showcase their talents. These students are the future of our country and such scientific fairs should be organized to encourage new scientific talents in among the students. The second Chief Guest, Dr. B.S. Kainth said that science fairs have an important contribution to enhance the scientific talents of students and to awaken the spirit of scientific research and innovation in them. The main objective of science fair is to generate curiosity in students about new discoveries so that students can develop interest in Science and Technology. Convenor of Science Galleria Prof. Karuna Mittal welcomed all the dignitaries. She said that this science fair will work as a moment in the institutions of science and society so that the common people will be introduced to new inventions and dimensions of science and technology. So that they can know science and adopt it in their life. Talented students from other schools and colleges were present at this science fair. They met each other and shared their knowledge. And maybe in future we can get one of these student as a talented scientists. She extended her best wishes to the students participating in the competition. 50 teams from various colleges and schools participated in this two-day science fair. In this, the teams were divided into two categories. Junior category and senior category. Students of +1 and +2 were placed in Junior category while B.Sc and MSc students in Senior category. Many competitions like Quiz, Idea Factory (PPT), GastroFest, Rangoli, Science Town, Model Presentation, Poster Presentation and Science on Stage (Dance) were organized in this Science fair. Some of the projects displayed by the students in the junior category were - Smart city model, Smart road control, Automatic irrigation of plants, Web cam based face detection, Salt-water power generation, Roof ventilator wind turbine, etc. Whereas senior category students displayed projects such as - Organic Planting (Terrace Farming), Extraction of DNA, Renal Resuscitation, Safe Use of Ophthalmic Preparation etc. Apart from this there were some projects like - tsunami indicators, flower arrangements. The winners of these competitions were awarded by the Chief Guest with prizes and certificates. To make this science fair successful, two committees were formed by the college, who made it successful with their hard work. In the Advisory Committee, Mr. Ajay Aggarwal (Registrar), Prof. C.K. Sikka (Head of Department), Prof. Kunwar Deepak (Head of Department Geography), Prof. Kunwar Rajiv (Head of Department of Physics), Prof. Bharatendru Singhala (Head of Department BFST), Dr. Nishchay Bahl (Head of Department of Computer Science), Dr. Renuka Malhotra (Head of Biotech Department), Dr. Komal Arora (Head of Department of Botany) were included. While in the Organizing Committee, Dr. P.K. Sharma, Dr. Atul Bhalla, Prof. Anu Gupta, Dr. Ashu Behal, Prof. Pooja Sharma, Dr. Deepak Wadhawan, Dr. Sanjay Sharma, Prof. Sheetal Aggarwal were included.
