CT University holds workshop on Home-grown tool houses for Urban Poor

Ludhiana, April 1, 2019: CT University’s School of Design and Innovation organised an expert lecture and workshop for students of B. Arch and B. Design Interior Design by Ar Mostafizur Rahman, an expert in Industrial Area Planning and Management, on ‘Home-grown Tool Houses for Urban poor’.

The expert for the day, Rahman said, “This will have a productive influence on students as they bring out functional and emotional aspects of designing shelters for homeless people. With this, architecture students are given hands on experience that how they can use the technical skills to develop tool houses for urban poor as outcome of the live case studies. Students can jingle their minds and develop a functional place for the occupants.”

Elaborating further, Ar Geetanjali Kapoor, Head of School of Design and Innovation said, “The workshop threw light on the latest concepts of 'Slum Housing'. Students also designed 'Tool House' for a specific design problem dividing the plan into rent out area, living space and work place as well. This is not only an academic activity but students can have social exposure by designing for urban poor.”

Vice Chancellor, Dr Harsh Sadawarti said, “Such practically oriented workshops are not only academic based but giving a social message to the society that how the profession of architecture can provide health, social and economic benefits to the homeless people.”
