Shimla, August 4, 2015: Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh offered floral tributes on the statue of Dr.Y.S.Parmar at Dr.Y.S.Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry Nauni in Solan district today and flagged off mobile health clinic van. He also launched Van Mahotsav at the University campus by planting a sapling.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated girls hostel in the Nauni University campus completed with an outlay of Rs. 2.50 crore. He inaugurated high tech floriculture farm completed with an outlay of Rs. five crore.
The Chief Minister said that the girls hostel was a necessity for the University and the second hostel would also be constructed on same pattern. He said that education was the top priority of the State government and the aim was to uplift the society through education. He said that all the three Universities in government sector were imparting quality education. He said that the efforts of the University teachers should be to produce high quality researchers and scholars.
Shri Virbhadra Singh said that State Government had not only fulfilled the promises made in the election manifesto of Congress Party but performed beyond it. He said that State had witnessed unprecedented development in every sphere during last two and a half years.
He said that State Government had opened numerous educational institutes with special emphasis on quality education. He exhorted the students to imbibe the habit of discipline so that educational atmosphere could be maintained. He asked the University authorities make all out efforts for solving the problems and demands of students, employees and faculties. He said that State Government had opened as many as 22 new colleges during last two and half years and a provision of Rs. five crore each had been for these colleges in first phase besides opening or upgrading more than 750 schools in the State.
Irrigation and Public Health Minister Smt. Vidya Stokes said that Himachal Pradesh had emerged as a model State in horticulture sector and efforts were afoot to grow other species of fruits and plants. Apart from this, efforts were to give a push to floriculture, off season vegetables, mushroom cultivation and bee keeping. She said that the government was adding 4000 hectares of additional area each year under horticulture and was distributing 20-25 lakh fruit plants every year to the horticulturists.
She said that the annual contribution of horticulture industry had been more than Rs. 3200 crore towards the State GDP. She disclosed that Rs. 1000 crore development project for development of pre and post harvest sector has been approved. She said that the water supply from Giri River to Nauni University had started which was one of the major demand.
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Col. (Dr.) Dhani Ram Shandil while addressing a gathering on the occasion lauded the efforts of the State Government to take education to the farthest corner of the State. Dr. Shandil exhorted the students to make research in modern farming techniques and take the University to new heights.
Chief Parliamentary Secretary Shri Neeraj Bharati, MLAs Shri Ajay Mahajan and Shri Kishori Lal, HPCC General Secretary Shri Vinod Sultanpuri, District Congress President Shri Rahul Thakur, Chairman, APMC Shri Ramesh Thakur, Chairman, Khadi Board Shri Ramesh Chauhan, member BoD Tourism Shri Surender Sethi, member Pollution Control Board Shri Arvind Gupta, former MLA Ms. Krishna Mohini and Vice Chancellor, Nauni University Shri Vijay Singh Thakur were also present on the occasion.
