PAU Rice Team Conferred With Best AICRIP Centre Award

Ludhiana, April 17, 2015: The rice team of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been conferred with the “Golden Jubilee Best AICRIP Centre Award” for outstanding contributions to All India Coordinated Rice improvement Project (AICRIP) in the last 50 years and for the development of improved varieties and technologies of rice. Dr S. Ayyappan, Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and Dr Robert Zeigler, Director General, International Rice Research Institute, Philippines presented the award to PAU Rice Team during the 50th Annual Rice Research Group Meeting of AICRIP, held at Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad from April 11-15, 2015. Dr J.S. Sandhu, Deputy Director General (Crop Sciences), ICAR was also present on the occasion. Besides, Dr Piara Singh Gill, Ex- Senior Agronomist-cum- Director, PAU Rice Research Station, Kapurthala was honoured for his outstanding contributions to rice research.

There are 47 AICRIP funded centres in the country. In addition to PAU, Ludhiana; five other centres, operational in the state agricultural universities of Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu were also honoured. Kulwinder Singh, a progressive farmer from Patiala was honoured for the adoption of new rice technologies.
