Chrysanthemum Show Concludes At PAU, Gets Huge Response From Flower Lovers

Ludhiana, December 9, 2015: With overwhelming response from the flower lovers, the two-day “Annual Chrysanthemum Show” concluded at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The Open Air Theatre of PAU was decked up with diverse varieties and myriad colours of chrysanthemums. The full bloom flowers captured the attention of the onlookers. The show was jointly organized by the Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, and Estate Organization, PAU.
 
In his concluding remarks, the Chief Guest, Dr R.S. Sidhu, Director of Extension Education, said, “Flowers convey a message of harmony, gaiety and jollity. They are nature’s prettiest gift to the mankind.” He said the “Chrysanthemum Show” speaks of the dedication and devotion of PAU floriculture scientists and gardeners. The show has always been a hit with the city dwellers, he said, while appreciating the enthusiastic participation of the individuals, city schools, nurseries, etc. in the competition. Later, Dr Sidhu gave away the prizes to the winners.
 
Dr A.S. Dhatt, Head, Floriculture and Landscaping said the department sold more than 700 flower pots of chrysanthemum belonging to 12 different classes like incurved, incurving, intermediate, reflexed, pompon, anemone, spider, spoon, button, single, semi-double and decorative. He informed the department is also planning to organize another Flower Show during first week of March 2016 for different types of flowers blooming during the spring season.
 
The visitors appreciated the tips demonstrated by the experts for growing chrysanthemums. In the competition, Mr Charandeep Singh, a resident of Sarabha Nagar, was adjudged as the “Overall Best.” Besides, Navpreet Kaur, a resident of Aggar Nagar got special pot prize. In addition, winners received prizes in 12 categories.
